San Miguel de Salinas is a municipality in the Valencian Community, Spain. Located in the south of the province of Alicante, in the Vega Baja del Segura region, near the Region of Murcia. It has 5,811 inhabitants, 55% of which are foreign nationals.1 Located between Torrevieja and Pilar de la Horadada, it is the highest town in the region. The 54 km² municipal area descends from the mountain in a route of boulevards, ravines and hills to the plain, known as El Llano where the salt flats field is located, which is the cultivation area. Regional roads connect it with Orihuela, through Bigastro, Torrevieja and the towns of Vega del Segura. From Alicante, this town is accessed through the A-7 and AP-7 to connect with the CV-940 and CV-941. San Miguel de Salinas began to be populated around the year 1599, the year in which some owners of surrounding properties began to build the first homes, located in what is currently the urban area. The first religious building (a hermitage) was built in the year 1600, although it was demolished in the year 1689, probably due to its poor condition. The new temple, which is the current one, was completed in 1719; In 1723, at the request of the residents of San Miguel, the Chapter of the Church of the Salvador of Orihuela (to which the hermitage of San Miguel belonged) decided to separate the hermitage, making it an independent parish, with its own priest.
